Biodentistry

What is Biodentistry?

Biodentistry is a holistic approach to dentistry, understanding that our teeth are an integral part of our body and not a separate entity. Recognising that our oral health can have a significant impact on our overall health and wellbeing.

Scott Makiol Dentistry provides you with a holistic approach, combining that with the best standards of modern clinical dentistry.

Why do we adopt a Biodentistry approach?

Biodentistry allows us to provide the patient with a more holistic approach to their oral health needs. We look at the individual person as a whole, including diet and nutrition, coupled with the highest standards of modern scientific dentistry.

Nutrition

Current scientific research is looking closely as how the foods we consume effect the bacteria in our bodies and how our gut health affects our overall health and wellbeing. These colonies of bacteria are called microbiomes. The first microbiome of our digestive tract is found in our mouth. Therefore the first step in ensuring a healthy gut, mind and body is to have a healthy and happy microbiome in your mouth.

Brushing and flossing are, of course, important measures for keeping our teeth, gums and oral cavity in excellent health. But, more importantly, the foods and drinks we consume play the largest role of all.

Today’s diet of processed foods and high sugar intake are the leading cause of tooth decay and other oral health issues.

We believe that nutrition plays such a key role in the overall health of a person, including their oral health, and are able to provide advice and guidance to changes that you can make to your daily life.
