Biodentistry

Biodentistry, or holistic dentistry, is the diagnosing, preventing, treating and maintaining oral health using natural, biocompatible therapies. However, practising modern biodentistry doesn't mean we neglect leading-edge, scientific dental technologies and techniques.

The Mouth-Body Connection

The International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine states biological dentistry emphasises the importance of the mouth-body connection. Illness that occurs within the body may materialise in the mouth and vice versa. Additionally, various factors can affect a person's oral health, such as diet, stress and sleep patterns.

What Is a Biological Dentist?

All biological dentists obtain a BDSc degree and offer a wide range of dental services, like bi-annual cleans, cavity restorations and gum disease therapies. A biological dentist also tries to identify the root cause of a patient's oral health issues. We also discuss the patient's diet, dental hygiene and other health and lifestyle habits.

We Use High-Quality Restorations for a Natural Smile

At Scott Makiol Biodentistry, we use safe, non-toxic materials to repair, restore and improve a person's teeth and gums. Among these materials are metal-free, tooth-coloured fillings, crowns, bridges and more. These restorations look, feel and function like natural teeth.

Do You Need a Dental Appointment?

Our health-conscious patients appreciate our focus on prevention, patient education and comprehensive dental care. If you need to arrange a preventive appointment with Dr Scott, we invite you to call our friendly dental team.

At Scott Makiol Biodentistry, we focus on the patient’s overall health and its connection to their oral health. Instead of solely focusing on the mouth, we consider the patient’s whole body health and wellness and its relation to their oral health. We call this holistic dentistry, also commonly called biodentistry, because we treat the person as a whole.

We Prioritise Your Whole-Body Health

Our holistic approach prioritises your overall quality of life using modern dentistry in a relaxing, stress-free atmosphere for your physical and emotional well-being. We use advanced dental care techniques and technologies to improve patient outcomes, and we use durable, high-quality materials that do not contain metal.

Metal-free restorations are more compatible with the body’s natural processes, not to mention they more accurately match a person’s natural smile.

Ultimately, we see the mouth as an integral part of the body, and we consider oral health concerns to relate to whole-body vitality.

We Help Create Healthy Smiles That Last

The mouth is a high sensory area, and we want your teeth and gums to function as comfortably as possible.

The mouth is a microenvironment that mirrors the body’s total health. For example, plaque and tartar buildup on the teeth can risk plaque accumulation in the arteries.

The same bacteria associated with gum disease is also often present in the hearts of those with heart disease. A holistic dentist focuses on the proper balance of oral bacteria to improve a patient’s smile and general health.

General Dentistry

A routine dental exam and clean typically takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your needs. However, some patients may need more or less time for an extensive exam or clean, especially if they have an issue that needs addressing, like decay or gingivitis.

What to Expect During a Routine Preventive Appointment

Your dentist will discuss your medical history, review any concerns you may have and discuss treatment options. Our goal is to help maintain your level of optimal oral health so you can enjoy a healthy, functional smile for a lifetime.

During your exam and clean, Dr Scott will look at your teeth, gums, jaws, bite and oral tissues to monitor the growth and development. We also use dental x-rays to check for potential underlying issues.

Dr Scott gently cleans your teeth to remove plaque and tartar from all the places your brush and floss can’t reach. We finish the clean by polishing your teeth, refreshing your smile.

Are You Ready to Arrange a Dental Clean?

At Scott Makiol Biodentistry, we recommend getting preventive appointments every six months. However, some patients may need them more frequently. If you need a dental clean or exam, we encourage you to contact us at your earliest convenience.
