Crowns and Bridges

Most of our patients want a smile that meets their oral health goals and aesthetic expectations. Our detailed and knowledgeable team at Scott Makiol Biodentistry can help you reclaim your smile by using dental crowns and bridges.

Dental crowns and bridges are versatile restorations that restore your teeth's function and appearance. Scott Makiol Biodentistry creates and places dental crowns and bridges of the highest quality. Typically, we make our restorations out of porcelain to mimic natural teeth's look, durability and function.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown, also called a tooth cap, fits over a tooth to strengthen it or protect it from decay and disease.

Dental crowns can correct various concerns:

  • Correct gummy smiles
  • Replace silver, gold or metal fillings
  • Cover one or more decayed teeth
  • Preserve a cracked or chipped tooth
  • Protect a tooth weakened from a root canal
  • Shield a tooth from teeth grinding, cavities and erosion
  • Improve the aesthetics of a person's smile
  • Conceal the visible portion of a dental implant
  • Anchor a dental bridge in place

Dental crowns protect and stabilise the original tooth from further damage or decay, and they can improve the tooth's appearance and function. A dental crown can improve your ability to eat, chew, bite and speak with more comfort and ease than before.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a prosthetic tooth or row of teeth that attach to dental implants or existing natural teeth. They replace missing teeth and can complete your smile. There are different kinds of dental bridges: traditional, Maryland, and implant-supported bridges. Depending on your unique tooth-replacement needs, Dr Scott will determine which type of dental bridge is most beneficial to your health and aesthetic goals.

How We Place Crowns and Bridges

We usually place a crown or bridge in two or three dental visits. First, we numb the area where we'll be working and prepare the natural tooth to receive the restoration. We then take impressions of your teeth to capture an accurate representation of your smile's position. We send the impressions to a trusted custom dental lab, where a specialist creates a permanent restoration to meet your needs.

Creating a custom restoration can take up to three weeks, so in the meantime, we give you a temporary crown or bridge to wear. Once your permanent crown or bridge is back from the lab, we will check the finishing product for the proper fit and make any necessary adjustments. Finally, we cement the restoration in place, so it doesn't move, slip or fall out of your mouth.

Before leaving our dental practice, we review with you all crown or bridge care instructions to help ensure your new tooth remains fully functional. In addition, practising oral hygiene and getting routine dental cleans are essential for ensuring your crown or bridge lasts for many years.

We Create Personalised Crowns and Bridges

We personalise each crown and bridge to match your smile seamlessly. Before creating your custom crown or bridge, we study your facial features, skin tone and the shade, shape and size of your teeth. Doing so allows us to design a smile for you that looks, feels and functions just like natural teeth.

Whatever your needs may be, you can count on Dr Scott and our team to treat your dental health to the best of your and our abilities. We also use modern dental technologies and techniques to ensure you are receiving advanced, holistic dentistry.

Dr Scott may refer a patient to a local oral surgeon or dental specialist for more complex tooth-replacement cases.
